Paul Tatsumi Nagano (1938- ; Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A.) studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, U.S.A. He first visited Bali in 1984 and is a regular visitor . Nagano works primarily in watercolors and depicts idyllic landscape alive with the beauty and quiet power of nature, or the lively colors and impressions of Balinese rituals. His pointillist technique is a combination of the best of Eastern and Western aesthetics, a personal style influenced by 18th century Japanese poet-painters Ikeno Taiga and Buson, and by 19th century French impressionist artist Cloude Monet (1840-1926) Collections : Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (Honolulu), Contemporary Arts Center of Hawaii (Honolulu), Boston Public Library (Massachusetts, U.S.A), New Britain Museum of American Art (Connecticut, U.S.A).
